4 Ways to Regain Your Confidence After Having a Baby

4 Ways to Regain Your Confidence After Having a Baby

Being a mother can be the most rewarding experience, but it is also the most difficult. According to studies, many women experience a decrease in self-esteem during pregnancy, which lasts for several years after giving birth. Motherhood can often feel contradictory in a way that can damage your self-esteem, from attempting to live up to pressure to be the best mother possible to accepting changes to your body to stepping away or minimizing your career. You deserve to love yourself and be confident in how you look, feel, and contribute to your family and society. To help you clear the clutter, we’ve compiled a list of four ways to regain your confidence after having a baby.

  1. Establish a Regular Exercise Routine

In the same study that found women’s self-esteem drops after pregnancy, researchers discovered that more than a third of the women exercised at least three times per week. Those who did were found to have a more positive mindset, more confidence, and were more likely to participate in enjoyable activities.

This is not surprising given that exercise has been shown to increase energy, decrease feelings of depression, and shift your mind into a more positive frame of mind. While it can be difficult to find time to exercise, especially when you have a baby, remember that something is better than nothing, and try some of these simple ways to get moving:

  • Take the baby in the stroller for a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood each day.
  • Do a 5-minute circuit of 10 squats, 10 burpees, and 10 mountain climbers, repeating rounds for five minutes.

  1. Make an Effort to Improve Your Appearance

When your life revolves around childcare and housework, it’s easy to live in sweatpants and a hairnet. This may be a significant change from your pre-baby life, when you always made time for manicures and blowouts, and feeling as if you’ve “let yourself go” may be affecting your mental health. Take the time to look and feel like your old self by doing the following:

  • Following a simple skincare regimen of cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and protecting your skin from the sun.
  • Scheduling an afternoon out of the house where you can get your nails done and your roots touched up.
  • Dressing in clothes that make you feel and look more attractive (while still functioning for your daily life).

  1. Spend Your Time Doing What You Enjoy

Having children frequently means that you are constantly on the go. Laundry, errands, doctor’s appointments, and dinner all consume a significant portion of your time. However, it is still important to devote time to activities that you enjoy. Whether it’s returning to work, even part-time, picking up a new hobby, or setting aside time each week for time with friends, doing the things you enjoyed before having children can help you regain your sense of self and build your confidence.

  1. Regain Your Pre-Baby Body

It is normal to experience a loss of confidence as a result of the changes your body went through during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Women are expected to bounce back quickly after having a baby but doing so is nearly impossible. Stretch marks, loose skin around your belly, and sagging breasts are all common post-pregnancy issues, but if these changes are affecting your confidence, it’s fine to seek cosmetic solutions.

Dr. Deji Esan offers a mommy makeover, which is a personalized series of cosmetic procedures designed to help women regain their pre-baby bodies. Typically, the most common procedures are a combination of:

  • Tummy tuck to tighten loose muscles and remove excess skin.
  • Breast lift with augmentation to elevate sagging breasts and restore volume lost during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Labiaplasty is used to reshape labia that have become enlarged or stretched because of pregnancy.

Liposuction is used to remove stubborn fat deposits; however, Dr. Deji Esan will work with you to help you achieve your body goals so you can regain your confidence and feel your best on the inside and out.
